Katy Perry Inspired Makeup Tutorial: Gold and Glam.

Katy Perry has a really refined and classic make-up style, most commonly seen in famous 50′s inspired starlets. Katy downplays this strong pin-up look by making it a little more softer and fresh. Key points are a really strong eyebrow, with a really fun and flirty shimmering eye, a fresh face without too much blush, and a fun, usually shimmery lip in a shade to compliment her outfit.
We chose to re-create the look from this photo, because it is a versatile look of Katy’s. It’s feminine enough to pair with a cocktail dress, but fun and flirty enough for a pair of dark skinny jeans.
The focal point of this look is a sharp line created with a black liquid liner, and a set of killer false lashes. To re-create the golden-bronze shadow look in the photo, we created a blend of two Killer Cosmetics colors, that will soon be available at the UvKITTY shop.
For the lips we also chose a shimmering opaque pink lip, and chose to spice it up with an over-coat of a clear gloss.

1. Start with your base-face. This means you come ready with your foundation, concealer, and powder. Fill in your eyebrows as usual [or paint them on, :P] if need be, and added a powder shelf. If you’ve never created a powder shelf before, load a ton of translucent powder on a cosmetic sponge, and spread it from temple to nose, as seen above.

2. We are going to start lining out our crease with a neutral brown shadow. Don’t pick anything too dark, just something a little darker than the natural shadow of your crease, so we can ‘cheat’ a more feminine shadow line.

3. Begin shading out your crease using an angled shadow brush. Starting from the outer-corner of your eye. As a guideline, use continue the angle of your lower eyelid as it meets your eye. See the diagram below.

4. Concentrate the most of your pigment in the outer corner, and pull it inwards along the natural lip contour, until it blends into the lid towards the inner corner.

5. Void your brush of product, and begin pulling and blending your seams until you are satisfied with the opacity and angle.

For the main shadow color I used ‘Leatherface’ with a sheer blend of ‘Clockwork’ from the KillerCosmetics line, both will be available at the UvKITTY shop soon.

6. Using your main gold color, load a flat shadow brush and begin to line under your lower lash line, from corner to corner.

7. Repeat with the other eye.

8. Using the same gold/bronze shade, fill in both lids up to your neutral brown crease, covering the entire upper lid.

9. Top the lids with a thick line of black liquid liner, flicking up at the outer edges. Coat lashes with a couple thick coats of black mascara, and add a set of false lashes to add even more oomph to the look.

10. Give your eye an even more wide-eyed, innocent look by lining the lower shelf of your bottom lash line with an opaque white eyeliner, as shown above.

11. Face Lowlights were added with a light bronzer in the hollow of the cheek, a light dusting at the temple, around the perimeter of the forehead, and along the jawline. The rest of the face was given a light shimmery wash with a translucent powder mixed with a golden/white eyeshadow (like ‘Old Lace’ from the KillerCosmetics line). Unfortunately this effect is hard to capture with flash.

Pick a fresh pink blush suitable for your skin tone [find the perfect blush for you with our chart, here].

12. Blend your blush in just above your bronze contour, softly without too much opacity.

13. Finish with a Pink opaque lipstick or gloss, similar in shade to your blush color. Let it set for about 5 minutes, and then coat with a clear gloss for extra shine.
