This will be my first time getting dreads and im not sure how to go about
it i know you need a mix of both single and doubled ended dreads but im not sure how much i need i do want a thick look without it being ridiculous though…lol -Brittney
Hey Brittney,
most people order either Single-Ended or Double-Ended.
People who order single-ended’s usually want a full head of dreads without the super-fullness and weight of the DE’s. The downfall of SE’s though is that the installation method tends to be more visible.
Double-Ended’s are like two dreads in one, they create a more full installation, which can be much heavier, but thy hide the installation method, better.
Some people do mix though, and order half double, and half single – they install the singles in the bottom half, to help alleviate some weight, and the double’s on the top, to fill out and cover the lower installation.
That being said, if you have hair of a regular coarseness, doing a full head of DE’s isn’t too heavy, I would only recommend using both SE’s and DE’s if you have super thick hair.
Because this is your first time with dreads, I recommend you read the UvKITTY dread FAQ. It can clarify the SE and DE thing a little more, and has a guide for the quantity you’d need for your hair thickness. It also touches on care, and keep up, and how to maintain synth dreads. You can find it here.
Hi, my 21st birthday is coming up and I was wanting to dye my hair as a little birthday present for myself. I’m debating between a natural-ish shade of red or super blonde. I’m fairly pale and naturally a brunette. Which do you think would work? I really don’t want to look stupid on my birthday~ Aimee M.
I really love red on pale skin, but I also really enjoy a good bleach blonde. There are a few things you might want to factor in though, apart from how much you like each shade.
Blonde:
- Damaging. Going that light you are going to want to have a swell conditioner near-by to give your hair some much needed TLC.
- Permanent. Say Good-bye to your natural brunette shade and hello to blonde. In order to go back to a color near your natural one, you are going to have to find it in a bottle, or wait for the blonde to (unflatteringly) grow out.
Red:
- Natural Red shades fade the fastest, and require the most upkeep.
- If you are looking for a temporary look for your bday, red is your best bet. I reccomend checking out L’Oreal Color Pulse Mousse in a red shade, as you can have your natural brown hair a beautiful Auburn shade in a snap that doesn’t damage your hair, and will return completely back to normal in less than 2 weeks.
In the end it is entirely up to you, and your level of commitment with this shade. Be sure to send us pics of your final decision! Happy Birthday!
