I’m going on vacation soon, and I was hoping on wearing my new synthetics dreads. I’m going to be swimming in both the pool and the ocean. But I’m really nervous about ruining them. Help? -Brke.
First off – yes, you can wear them in a pool, or the ocean, or while swimming in general.
The best idea would be to tie them up in a knot on the top of your head, and avoid getting them wet, a full head of synthetic dreads that get wet can be extremely heavy and can take forever to dry out.
As you should know when you shower/wash your hair – if you do want to get them wet while swimming, or accidentally do so – you should dry them out and not keep them up in the knot, otherwise they have the potential to get mildewy (think crumpled up damp towel smell). After getting out of the pool, take your hair out of the knot and let it hang out in the air, or even lie down in the sun, to thoroughly dry everything out.
Also, you don’t have to worry about fading or the color running because they are made of synthetic fibres, most likely kanekalon. This means that they aren’t porous, and the color will last without fading, even in chlorinated or seaweed infested waters.
I have dirty-blond hair, and I want to make it purple. Do I use Kool-Aid or Food Coloring? Me and a friend already tried with both, and we couldn’t get it to dye at all… -Katy.
Neither work very good. But people have died their hair with Kool-Aid before. Don’t use food coloring. If you are going to use Kool-Aid make sure that you use the sugar-free – otherwise you will end up with a goopy, sticky, mess.
If you are looking for purple hair you might as well fully opt in with a dye like special effects or manic panic. You should check out this post, and this post, to find out the best hair-dye option for you.
How do I dye my hair form naturally auburn to blond, without looking bad?
I have heard some serious horror stories about red heads trying to dye their hair blond/bleaching it
I want to do a really super light blond, then I am putting streaks of turquoise and like bright blue in it, how do I do this without looking too bad?
Because your hair is naturally red-dish, you are going to want to use an ash toner on it after you lighten it to remove the orange-y hue it will be after you lighten it.
For the blue streaks, you are going to want to use a vibrant dye like special effects and manic panic. You’ll want to be extra careful when dying the hair, and use foils to keep the different colors separate.
Unfortunately, after time, these colors will bleed into the blond and you will need to re-bleach the un-streaked parts to keep everything tidy.
That’s all for this week guys! Submit your questions for the next post, via the easy ‘Ask KKZ’ sidebar!
